13-JUN-2025 | Nike’s “I’m Out of Here” Ad

You glance at your watch.

It’s 6:28. You’ve been at it since 3.
Crap. Your hot date is at 7. Running late. Sink shower it is.
Nowhere close to done editing…

“…at least all the ideas are laid out, so there’s that. Did I miss anything? I don’t think so? Ok, but how do I make it flow? I need to get the final draft to Stacey for design asap, team cutoff is at noon Thursday…”

You’ve spent dinner completely distracted. Your date just took off. You go home exhausted, plod to your desk, and flip open the laptop.

Or… what if:

5:41 — you’re out of the shower and lip-syncing.
6:17 — dressed to the nines and zenned out.
7:03 — the sunset glints off your aviators as you smile hello.
8:36 — it actually feels like you’re hitting it off. Not just hot, funny to boot.
Next morning, 9:27 — final draft ready in your inbox.
10:31 — Stacey messages back, “thanks, looks good!”

The difference?

Copygloss handled it. Before you left for the date, actually.

Identity is a helluva drug.

This is a more inspirational version of “Don’t talk to me until I’ve had my coffee.” Punchy.

That’s right. I’m out of here. Do not chase me down or text me or try to talk to me into going out to lunch. I don’t have time to figure out if I have time for a run. I’m just going. The world will not fall apart in my absence. I might miss somebody’s birthday cake or a discussion of last night’s season finale. Even if I do, who cares. I’m coming back with a state of mind three coffees, two flirtatious e-mails and a week of vacation can’t buy.

JUST DO IT 🏁

The almighty Nike sells millions and millions of sneakers by writing at a kindergarten level.

The lesson cannot be overstated: make it simpler, then make it simpler again. Make your writing atomically simple.

Moving along now. There’s a nice mix of long and short. The short stuff does the finger jabbing, the long stuff paints the scene.

And even beyond identity, what’s Nike hitting at?
A state of being.

Hat tip to Maslow.
